Education Recommendations

Education Recommendations

Recommendations from YPC Advisory Group member, Jordan Edwards, District Manager, ABOC, The EyeDoctors:

11B1 Needs Based Selling
Needs based selling is my favorite way to approach a patient encounter! I'm excited to have the opportunity to brush up on this.

24B5 Best of OD's on Facebook: Practice Management Pearls
I think it's always beneficial to hear some of the situations that my peers encounter in their practices. I also anticipate this to be very entertaining!

33B4 Staff Management: Creating a Culture of Excellence
Creating a culture that is conducive to building a strong and productive team is key! I'm looking forward to hearing what Wright has to say on this topic.

34B2 Who's Going to Train These People?
A great topic from one of my favorite speakers! Staff training and education is a critical piece to a successful practice. Unfortunately, training needs can be difficult to keep up with!

42B3 3D Printing and the Impact on Eyewear & Eyecare
I think it's important to stay up on the newest technology in the industry. I'm looking forward to this update!

Recommended by YPC Advisory Group member, Faheem Inayatali, OD, Eye Center of Houston:

10L4 Ocular Surface Disease and Wellness Symposium
This course is particularly interesting for two reasons. These particular optometric leaders have profound knowledge regarding the Dry Eye world, and integrating a flow of diagnostics and treatment plans can often become challenging. This course will work its way through the fundamentals of strategy towards implementation and responsibilities of everyone in the office.

21C4 The Pediatric Red Eye
When younger patients shuffle around in your seat, it is challenging to get a good look with an ophthalmoscope, let alone have a definitive diagnosis. This course will provide a great refresher to common pediatric disorders and serious conditions that are critical to rule out.

22C5 Create Distinction and Build Your Practice With New Technologies
Dr. Jasper has always been one of my favorite speakers. Her level of enthusiasm is contagious. Technology and service often go hand and hand to create a memorable experience for our patients. She will highlight how optometry's place in the healthcare system will reside in medical eye care utilizing the latest innovations and technology.

Recommended by YPC Advisory Group member, Kristen O’Brien, OD, Owner, Vision Source of GVR, Optometric Insights:

11C3 Getting to know your OCT
This is important because we often know when to DO an OCT but we don't always know the next steps or all the different ways in which we can utilize our OCT in practice. I think this is the most underutilized piece of equipment in my office currently and I'd love to know how to better integrate it into my practice

25C2 The Shifting Sands of Dry Eye and MGD - Expert Perspective
Dry eye is the number one growing patient complaint in my office and there's multiple new dry eye technologies out in the market. Learning what's best for what patient is important to successful treatment. Plus, these two speakers - Kading and Epstein - are fun and don't hold back!

34C1 The Harsh Reality of Posterior Segment Disease in a Health Patient Practice
I know this is late in the day on Saturday but I know it'll be work your time. Most of us end up in a primary care practice and may have a specialty we dabble in. Our overall 'healthy' patient population will inevitably have disease. Learning how to handle this in your practice is crucial to patient management and building lasting relationships.

Recommended by Rachel Salabes, Marketing and Programs Manager, The Vision Council:

Vision Expo East is highlighting the next generation of aspiring leaders with its new Intrepid Talk Series! These courses provide the opportunity to learn from fellow young professionals on growth opportunities in optometry – from topics related to future medical therapeutics to collaborative care models and practice development. Here are a few courses to check out:

Education Recommendations

Education Recommendations

Recommendations from YPC Advisory Group member, Casey Wilgenbusch, Student, ICO:

CE is a bit of a misnomer for students as we are currently receiving "education" when it comes to the science of the eye and how to fix it. If I see a topic about a certain disease that I really like or would like more information, I will definitely consider going. However, I come to Expo to learn about the things we aren't taught at school: The business side of optometry. How to create an outstanding customer experience. How to motivate and cultivate a positive work environment. These all separate a good practice from an exceptional practice.

We Need to (Pop-Up) Talk: Defining the Relationship and Why It's Important with INVISION Colleen Galanti and Sherry Berry
Reflecting on the connections I have made and the opportunities those connections have created is a testament to the importance of creating a network around you. The ability to form relationships, whether it’s between doctors or between vendors, is a huge step in forming connections with patients.

12B3 Customer Experience: Creating Memorable Patient Experiences
How do the best companies in cutthroat markets continue to succeed? By creating a unique customer experience. Creating an exceptional experience in your practice will differentiate yourself from the competition and bring back patients with friends and family in tow.

24C1 Creating a 5-Star Patient Experience
Learn how to properly utilize new technology and tactics to create a 'wow' factor to differentiate your practice and create greater customer loyalty.

26B3 Customer Experience: How to Irritate Your Patients
An unfortunate reality is that customers (including ourselves) remember a bad experience almost as well as a truly outstanding experience. Learn the top 25 ways to create a poor customer experience including things we see as unavoidable. Then, learn the correct practice policy to minimize those bad Yelp reviews.

43B3 "I Wish This Was Taught in School!" - Essential Career Development Tips for Young Professionals
This CE is designed specifically for students and young professionals such as myself. You cannot pass up an opportunity to learn about what you don't learn in school
